An efficient oil filter is crucial to the engine operating system! As you have known, it is very important to keep the motor oil clean, as unfiltered oil will become saturated with tiny, hard particles increasingly, and these impurities will wear inner components of the engine and even lead to serious engine damage. The main job of an oil filter is to clear out the oil of contaminants, dirt, and metal as it is lifted from the oil pan before being dispersed throughout the engine, these foreign matters can eventually clog the oil filter if it is not regularly replaced, a clogged oil filter will affect the engine's performance, efficiency, and lifespan.

In term of how the filter work, an oil filter is integrated with a metal can, gasket, base plate,anti-drain back valve, filter medium,by-pass valve, pressure spring, and each component plays a unique role, The outside of the filter is a metal can with a sealing gasket that ensures the filter tight and resistant to changing thermal and mechanical loads. The base plate of the can holds the gasket and is perforated with holes around the area just inside the gasket. A central hole is threaded to mate with the oil filter assembly on the engine block. Inside the can is the filter material, most frequently made from synthetic fiber. The engine's oil pump moves the oil directly to the filter, where it enters from the holes in the perimeter of the base plate. The standard flow of the oil through the filter is that the dirty oil is passed (pushed under pressure) through the filter media and back through the central hole, where it re-enters the engine. The by-pass valve works as a no-intercepted channel to protect against the oil shortage in some emergency cases, it occurs when the filter becomes clogged and can't provide a smooth oil flow, due to the oil filter not being changed at an appropriate interval.
